Technical Director/Lighting Designer
Biography
Joshua Peters is the Technical Director and Lighting Designer for the Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies Program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He brings broad experience in theatrical production, design, and education, shaped by years of work as a Technical Director, designer, and performer across theater, dance, and live events.
Joshua oversees all technical and production operations in the Bruce Davis Theater, collaborates with faculty and guest artists on the mainstage season, and mentors students in stagecraft, lighting, and production practices. His work centers on creating learning environments where students gain practical skills, confidence, and an understanding of how collaborative artistry drives a production.
Before joining SMCM, Joshua served as Technical Director and Designer at Coker University, where he designed lighting for plays, musicals, and dance concerts, managed large-scale productions, supervised student crews, and taught courses in theatrical production. He has designed and directed numerous projects in both academic and professional settings, and his background includes scenic work, sound design, and extensive experience in stage management and technical leadership.
Joshua holds a Master of Arts in Theatre from Villanova University and a Bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University. He is committed to supporting original work, championing student creativity, and advancing inclusive, hands-on training in the performing arts.
