The Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) has recently recognized two members of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland community in their ACUHO-I Heroes program: Joanne Goldwater, associate dean for retention and student success, and Brad Newkirk, director of the physical plant.

According to its website, the ACUHO-I Heroes program was created to recognize individuals who have displayed leadership within their organizations and the profession as a whole, gone above and beyond their traditional scope of work to ensure the health and safety of their communities, and tirelessly advocated for their community members.

ACUHO-I was first created in the United States in 1949 following World War II. In 1980, the I was added in order to reflect the international institutions that joined the association over time.
