Andrew Cognard-Black, professor of sociology, is the lead author of an article in the most recent issue of the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council. Using data on more than 100,000 university students at 19 major research universities, the article is the first large-scale national study of honors students across the country.

Art Spisak, a past president of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) and director of honors at the University of Iowa, served as co-author for the article, titled “Creating A Profile of An Honors Student: A Comparison of Honors and Non-Honors Students at Public Research Universities in the United States.”

Cognard-Black joined the St. Mary's College faculty in 2003, and he currently serves as a member on the NCHC Board of Directors. A Fulbright scholar (University of Ljubljana, 2012), Cognard-Black's research interests include the sociologies of higher education, work, and social inequality.
