Assistant Professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies

Biography
Samantha Pinson Wrisley (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Previously she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of WGSX at Emory University in Atlanta, where she completed her PhD (WGSX) in 2023. Her research is interested in the intersection of sexual politics, advanced technology, and internet culture. She is currently working on two book projects. The first is a crossover book with Palgrave Macmillian called Heteropessimism: A Handbook. The second is titled The Sexual Politics of the Digital: Affect, AI, and Advanced Technology.
This fall, Dr. Wrisley is teaching two courses: Introduction to Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and an upper-division class called Feminist Media Studies: Sex and Tech. She has previously taught courses in Sexuality Studies, Feminist/Queer Theory, Critical Heterosexuality Studies, and Far-Right Studies.
