Garret J. McDonald

Biography

Garret McDonald earned his PhD in modern history from Fordham University in New York City in 2023. After teaching at Saint Mary's College (Notre Dame, IN) and Kenyon College (Gambier, OH), he joined the faculty at St. Mary's College of Maryland in 2025. Garret is currently working on a book manuscript based on his dissertation tentatively titled The Insulin Gulag: Involuntary Hospitalization and the Making of Punitive Psychiatry in the Soviet Union which unites some of his broad and admittedly eclectic research interests in the histories of crime, punishment, and policing as well as science, technology, medicine, and environment.
