Educational Studies Support Specialist
Biography
Elsa G. Ugues is the educational studies support specialist in the department of educational studies at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Elsa holds an M.Ed. in Reading Education from Towson University and a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from California State University, Bakersfield. Elsa has a wide range of experience working with students with diverse learning needs. Most recently, she worked as a K-5 special education paraeducator in the St. Mary's County Public Schools system where she provided personalized instructional support to elementary school students with special needs. She is passionate about the literacy development of young learners. As the child of Mexican immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, she is cognizant of the challenges first-generation students face. She strives to support the preparation of teachers who can meet the needs of a wide range of students, especially first-generation students and neurodiverse student populations.
