Public Safety Officer

Biography
David Turner joined the Office of Public Safety in August of 2010. He served as a Dispatcher until 2018, and received certifications as a Public Safety Telecommunicator, Communications Training Officer, and Crisis Communicator. He provided communications and dispatch training for other staff, student employees, and new officers, updated the communications training process, and performed multiple administrative duties as well.
In 2018, he transitioned into the role of a patrol officer, and is currently assigned to the day shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.). Officer Turner is certified as a Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator and Field Training Officer, and is a member of IACLEA and a participant in the College and University Police and Investigators Conference. He is the President of the College's Union local, and an instructor for Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid (Basic/Professional), First Aid for Severe Trauma, and the ALERRT Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events course. Outside of Public Safety, Ofc. Turner fills the role of staff advisor for the SMCM Outdoor Adventure Club, is an avid reader, gamer, and recreational shooter, and enjoys spending time traveling, sailing, and backpacking.
