Christopher Coons

Biography

Deputy Chief Christopher Coons began his career with the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Office of Public Safety in 2005. D/C Coons graduated from the Municipal Police Academy at Lackawanna College in 2003.  Prior to working at St. Mary's College, D/C Coons was employed as a Police Officer for the Jermyn Borough and Hawley Borough Police Departments in Pennsylvania.  Since joining Public Safety, D/C Coons has become a certified Maryland Police Training Commission instructor, and teaches ASP Expandable Baton and Handcuffing, SABRE OC Aerosol Spray, and Red Cross CPR/First Aid. A/D Coons is responsible for the institution’s compliance with the Clery Act including the Colleges’ Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. In 2019 A/D Coons completed his FBI-LEEDA leadership trilogy.  In 2025 D/C Coons became a Certified Clery Compliance Officer through the National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professional (NACCOP).

    A/D Coons was selected as Public Safety Officer of the Year in 2009 and 2014.
