The Maryland Department of Health has reported two confirmed cases of measles in residents of Southern Maryland.
A call center has been established for St. Mary's County residents who have questions about measles. Community members may call 240-735-8288, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., for information and guidance.
Vaccination remains the best way to prevent measles infection and reduce the spread of the virus. The St. Mary's County Health Department (SMCHD) recommends that children, non-immune adults, travelers, and healthcare workers be up to date on their measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination. The MMR vaccine is safe and highly effective, with two doses providing approximately 97% protection against measles.
SMCHD offers MMR vaccinations to all St. Mary's County community members, regardless of ability to pay. To schedule a vaccination appointment, contact the St. Mary's County Health Department Health Clinic at 301-475-4330.

*Current and incoming students, faculty, and staff who have questions about their measles immunity or vaccination status should consult their healthcare provider or contact the St. Mary's County Health Department or the health department where you live. Individuals who develop symptoms consistent with measles or believe they have been exposed should contact a healthcare provider before arriving for evaluation so appropriate precautions can be taken.
