Students enrolled in EDUC 206, 336, 368, 386, and MATH 161 will be required to complete a field placement in our local school system, St Mary's County Public Schools (SMCPS). In order to complete your placement you will need to be registered as a volunteer with SMCPS through their Raptor system. There is no cost for this academic year. (If you have already applied as a volunteer for AY22-23 due to a different field placement in FA22, there is no need to reapply.)

Please go here to apply as an SMCPS volunteer via Raptor by December 16th:

  • Scroll down to the bottom, select the check box to verify that you've read the CASH docs and the handbook, and then click "proceed." From there, enter your information.
  • When the form asks for your affiliation, please choose "community member."
  • Since you do not yet know where you will be placed, please select at least one school of the options given to move forward. We do not place undergraduates at high schools except in special circumstances.

More information will be sent to you soon (via email) about how to schedule your field placement. For additional information, please contact Leigh Deane at sldeane@smcm.edu.
